With direction from the Senior Manager, Regional Communications and Marketing, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and coordination of comprehensive internal and external communication and public relations initiatives. This position includes a heavy emphasis on writing for various stakeholders and using a variety of internal and external communication tools and platforms such as regional information televisions, a SharePoint intranet portal, company internal and external social media, customer-facing website, town hall meetings, regional leadership meetings, internal and external emails, stakeholder presentations, video, reactive and proactive media outreach, and other media as required.


  • Create strategy, timelines, and templates for internal and external communications across the region
  • Develop and implement communication programs to keep employees, the public, and other stakeholders informed regarding Liberty's initiatives, products and services, accomplishments, and brand
  • Create content, videos, and photos for marketing and communications materials; coordinate and manage production provided by internal creative services team or external PR and ad agencies
  • Create advertisements and press releases for events, products and services, and company news
  • Create bill inserts, bill messages, letters, and email newsletters that satisfy strict regulatory requirements and support customer satisfaction improvement; coordinate email and/or mail distribution for inserts and newsletters
  • Develop and manage promotional campaigns to encourage customer participation in Liberty programs and services
  • Develop and support company internal initiatives through emails, internal social media posts, posters, and company TV screens
  • Create content for company website and social media platforms
  • Interview, collect data, and write clearly and effectively about complex topics
  • Support departments / regions across the company with writing, editing, and other communications
  • Track and share relevant analytics; use these metrics to inform and improve communications
  • Responsible for maintaining consistent messaging across all communications channels; promote company brand and values through a variety of communication channels
  • Maintain media and community contact lists; develop and maintain positive relationships with local and regional media outlets, serve as regional company spokesperson
  • Support crisis communications
  • Work with departments to develop and execute satisfaction improvement plans as a result of employee and customer satisfaction surveys
  • Work with departments to help plan, coordinate, and schedule community events and/or workshops
  • Attend customer and community events and speak on behalf of the company as needed
  • Support Corporate Communications and collaborate with other regional communications teams to ensure strategic goal alignment and communication and brand consistency
  • Process and manage contracts for services
  • Manage vendor relationships
  • Occasionally work weekends, holidays, and extra time as required
  • Drive Company vehicles and travel 25%-40%
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures; report all unsafe activities to the supervisor, Manager of Safety Services, and/or Human Resources
  • Perform various other duties and support other Liberty regions as assigned

    Education and Experience
    • Equivalent to a BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public relations, communications, journalism, business administration, political science, or closely related field
    • 5-10 years of experience in communications or a related field
    • Possess excellent oral and written communication abilities
    • Effective telephone etiquette and customer relations skills
    • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite - required; Photoshop, In
    • Design and/or other graphic design software preferred)
    • Effectively plan activities, set priorities, and identify alternative course of action when needed
    • Exercise independent judgment, discretion, finesse, professionalism, and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential nature
    • Effective interpersonal skills; must be able to work with people at all levels of the organization and also with customers and industry professionals
    • Must be self-motivated, organized, and able to multi-task
    • Able to work independently but also to function in a team environment
    • Professional appearance as a front-line representative of the Company
    • Be able to meet established goals and deadlines with minimal supervision
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish language) verbal and written skills are an asset
    • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
    • Be able to travel for business; may require overnight travel and work during evenings and weekends
