Red Collar Pet Foods is looking for a Production Scheduler to join our exciting new pet food business at one of our manufacturing plants. Who is Red Collar? Purpose of Role

The Production Scheduler provides direction and leadership for all production planning and scheduling activities at the manufacturing site. The goal is to optimize customer service; minimize the finished goods inventory and investment by maintaining finished goods inventory at safety stock target levels; efficiently use manufacturing assets and labor to clearly communication production activities throughout the network.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Prepare the site Master Production Schedule every week within a planning horizon
  • Maximize the utilization of manufacturing assets while providing the product mix dictated by the consumer through DRP; Works closely with the site industrial engineering and operations associates to evaluate capacity implications of various operating and capital investment decisions
  • Maintain site Master Production Scheduling software and ensure assumptions are consistent with the National Production Planning Model, Site Manufacturing Capacity Plan (MCP's), and Final Production Scheduling tools
  • Maintain static data in designated MRP system and any other relevant systems as required
  • Act as key site representative in weekly feasibility meeting and with the operations planning group in the NATA. Responsible for surfacing all short and long term business issues relative to scheduling through the feasibility meeting and supply meeting
  • Monitor inventories for target weeks of supply, requirements for special packs/co-packing activity and product at risk for age
  • Ensure change management plans are reflected in Model with new product launches or re-launches and new SKU's are introduced through systems, pipelines, etc.
  • Prepare the site Final Production Schedule (FPS) and keep schedule current to allow accurate MRP and DRP recommendations; Report PSL, Commercial Service Level and other key measures
  • Manage the "Make to Order" (MTO) production at the site to maximize logistics efficiently; Evaluate, coordinate, and revise production schedule requirements to maintain MTO items as necessary
  • Hold weekly scheduling meeting to review recommended production schedules, as well as coordinate necessary production schedule changes/incorporation between maintenance and technical services to assure the most efficient scheduling of line trials. PM's, installations and changeovers. Prepare and issue detailed meeting minutes with responsibilities attached to responsible associates
  • Plan and schedule inbound shipments of finished goods in support of maximizing direct ship opportunities. Evaluate and identify at risk items on a daily basis for direct ship warehouse and coordinate with appropriate associate's corrective actions
  • Manage direct ship inventory to match order profiles to maximize logistics efficiency. Match product families, minimum production amounts, and inventory targets to customer order profiles to case fill and order rill customer performance measures
  • All associates are responsible for the safety, quality and food safety in their work area
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge
  • Must have a sense of urgency and be capable of juggling many tasks simultaneously
  • Must be well-versed on the use of computers to develop programs and document activities
  • Must have knowledge of all areas of production, especially processing and packaging
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, ability to work well in a team environment as well as working with minimum supervision
  • Must have good problem solving skills
  • Must influence a positive culture
  • Must be capable of working at elevated heights and or confined space
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 55 lbs.
  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals
  • Knowledge of local, federal, and industry regulations with regards to: Food Safety (GMP, HACCP), Food Quality (Product and Process)
  • Q&FS testing practices and procedures, QMP polices and SPC
  • Forklift assignments require OSHA certification and getting on and off frequently
  • Understanding of the change management and capital appropriations processes
  • Flexibility to adapt to regularly changing priorities and quality issues
  • Ability to handle sensitive information
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating the efforts of a work team, action oriented


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • High School diploma required
  • 3+ years in a process manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with distribution/logistics management and inventory/materials management
  • Advanced user of Excel, Word, Power Point, and scheduling software
  • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language
  • Working knowledge of Safety, Quality and Material Management Systems and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand the daily production run schedule, and execute to that plan
  • Ability to communicate to managers and team members any production, quality/food safety or other business critical information vital to operations and customer service
  • Successful completion of a substance screening and background check

Preferred Quali?cations:
  • 2-4 year degree in logistics, engineering, business or operations
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles
  • Experience with JD Edwards
