GENERAL DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF ROLE:The Processing Assistant is responsible for the conversion of raw materials into finished pet food by safely supporting the processing functions of extrusion, batching and receiving. Responsibilities include supplying minor ingredients to the coating area, with additional responsibilities of relieving the batching, receiving and extrusion operators as needed. The Processing Assistant will specialize in learning all operational aspects of equipment in each area. The Processing Assistant is responsible for sanitation and pest control for the processing area in order to provide a clean, safe, orderly environment that exemplifies a world class manufacturing facility.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSResponsible for assisting all areas in maintaining high levels of daily cleanliness and adherence to site GMP's.Prioritize work on a daily basis by identifying pressing issues, through communication with each operator, knowing shift production plans and awareness of area.This role is primarily an assistant to the process operators that includes learning each role in depth.Educate others on clean design principles.Receive micro training and understand the hazards of cross contamination.Develop a detailed knowledge of the process flow of the plant.Demonstrate ability to perform micro hazard sampling.Apply concept in traffic, air flow and color code system.Maintain process area repair and effectively communicating with maintenance.Perform Food Safety checks and CCP monitoring activities as specified by HACCP.Properly tag and track all process waste material so it can be reused or disposed of correctly. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Record keeping, and organizational skills.Ability to plan work on a daily basis, work independently and be a self-starter and a highly motivated individual.Ability to read, write and understand English.Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.Must be literate and able to calculate totals, percentages, and operate some computerized equipment.High School diploma or GED. PREFERRED SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOP's, and safety documents.Understands the importance of safety and quality.Detail oriented and able to multi-task.2 or more years in food manufacturing with production floor experience.
