The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Mercy Hospital Joplin optimizes
healthcare delivery and leads efforts to enhance the environment
for patients, physicians and coworkers throughout the continuum of
care. The goal is to make Mercy Hospital Joplin the preferred
health system in the community that it serves by demonstrating
differentiated performance in healthcare.
The CMO reports directly and primarily to the Hospital Chief
Administrative Officer (CAO) or President (as determined locally).
There also exists a secondary reporting structure to the Ministry
Medical Staff Leader. The CMO is accountable for the direction,
planning and coordination of all physician related activities to
ensure the highest and most appropriate level of medical care is
provided by the medical staff at Mercy Hospital Joplin. This
includes, but is not limited to: establishing and implementing
standards of medical service, developing and implementing programs
for patient care, education and research, developing physician
relationships, providing professional support to the local Medical
Staff Executive Committee (MEC), reviewing data around patient care
effectiveness to drive clinical excellence, and leading improvement
The CMO will work closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and
quality leadership of the Hospital to create a clinical triad that
coordinates quality improvement and patient safety work across the
continuum of care. The CMO will work closely with the Community
Clinic President to create a physician leader dyad that coordinates
activities between Mercy Clinic Joplin and Mercy Hospital
Experience: At least five years of private practice experience.
Prior experience as a medical director or similar physician
leadership experience. Experience/education in change management
and conflict resolution to bring a medical staff with diverse
interests into a reasonably cohesive group that can work together
effectively. Administrative background in an integrated healthcare
system. Successful experience in developing critical care pathways,
case management, and clinical performance improvement processes.
Required Education: A Medical Degree and board certification in a
specialty registered in any US state.
