Purpose

An opportunity to join a dynamic team driven to source, attract and engage diverse top talent across North America. Provide oversight and leadership of Liberty Utilities Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for all Liberty entities. Ensure Liberty employees have received and have knowledge of the applicable EHS programs and procedures and are trained in order to safely comply with and align our goals in our safety programs. Manage and maintain both internal and external reporting mechanisms for Liberty Utilities as required by federal, state and local regulations, as well as Company policies and procedures. Also include Environmental performance monitoring of utility operations.

Accountabilities

Promote leadership, continuous improvement and implementation of corporate EHS programs, practices and procedures;

Advise Senior Leadership on changes to regulations as well as emerging EHS trends and how these will impact Liberty Utilities;

Develops and maintains cohesive EHS team that supports and is respected by company leadership, employees, regulators and the community;

Conduct formal and informal work site safety observations, hazard assessments, workplace inspections, etc., and identify corrective actions where needed;

Perform environmental inspections/audits and identify corrective actions where needed;

Assist Supervisors/Managers with incident investigations to ensure that root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented;

Provide employee training courses, Annual EHS Symposium and coordinate other training courses such as EHS orientation as needed;

Maintain employee training records, including injury records, actions, compliance;

Delivery and implementation of safety programs to site personnel;

Coordinate Workers Compensation claims and case management with involvement of Human Resources;

Lead operations in site specific H&S plans, JSA's, hazard assessments, etc;

Guide scheduling and detailing weekly toolbox/safety meetings;

Assist in Environmental reporting to agencies to ensure environmental compliance;

Monitor EHS performance (leading and lagging indicators) against internal and industry standards;

Maintain knowledge of applicable federal/provincial/municipal EHS legislation including applicable industry standards relative to the utilities industry;

Lead by demonstrating required behaviors and attitudes to establish a strong positive safety culture; and other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Bachelor degree in EH&S or related field would be an asset

Experience in the Gas Utility industry preferred not required

CSP or similar designation beneficial

Self-starter with minimal supervision; Working knowledge of Utility EHS regulations and OSHA regulations

Ability to read technical information and data, policies, laws, guidelines, and procedures at a college level.

Proficient computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, word processing, word processing and internet experience.

Valid Driver's License/Valid passport for occasional travel to Canada Head Office

Travel:

30% of time spent at Home Office

60% of time spent traveling to other Liberty Utilities Mid-States facilities

10% travel to other Liberty locations outside of Central Region

This position will have to report to one of the locations under its scope of work. Kirksville, Hannibal, Butler, Keokuk, Virden, Vandalia, Sedalia, Plate City, Nevada, Maryville, Marshall, Henrietta, Clinton, or Chillicothe.
